Media / Engagement

My research, particularly on tax policy, has contributed to the public debate and/or attracted interest from the media. I try to make myself available to the media for commentary, so feel free to get in touch. This page lists some recent contributions.

MacGill Summer School, Co. Donegal

I was delighted to participate in the annual MacGill Summer School in July 2024. I was invited to share my views on “How Ireland Should Spend Its Billions”.

Speaking at the MacGill Summer School

ISWE Budget 2025 Event

Economics is a male-dominated discipline. The Irish Society for Women in Economics is a fantastic initiative from the Irish Economics Association to e.g. encourage more women to study the subject. Needless to say, promoting gender equality does not mean excluding men. Rather, it means making the environment less hostile/more welcoming to women. This is the subject where a leading textbook once lumped “women and cranks” together, after all.

Irish Society for Women in Economics Budget Event

One approach ISWE uses is hosting panels discussing the issues of the day. In October, I was invited to provide analysis on the fiscal changes announced in Budget 2025. I donned my optimal taxation hat and proposed alternative policies that would upset just about every party in the Dáil.
